At the beginning of the war, Lviv was part of Poland, but from September 1939 until the end of June 1941 it was controlled by the Soviet government and became part of the Ukrainian SSR. June 30, 1941, when the Germans captured the city, power in Lviv again changed. And at that time in Lviv there were more than 200,000 Jews - 100,000 of them fled from Poland occupied by the Germans, writes Atchuup.
On July 1, 1941, Jewish pogroms began in Lviv. As soon as German troops entered the city, leaflets appeared on the streets that called the Jews "war-rappers," "killers of Ukrainians and Poles."
